Dispensary

Please see below for information regarding dispensary:

We are a busy dispensing practice which means that if you do not live within a mile of a pharmacy/chemist shop you can order and collect your medication from the surgery. This applies to 99% of our practice population and the dispensers are incredibly busy processing over 8000 medications each month. Most of these are what we call “REPEAT” medication. These are the medicines that patients receive on a regular basis without having to see the doctor each time: for example medication to control high blood pressure , statins and aspirin  for heart disease or contraceptive pills.

Repeat prescriptions

You can re-order your repeat medication in any of the following ways:

ON LINE ORDERING By using the online ACCESS system.  You will need a personal user ID and login instructions which are available from reception. Please bring photo id e.g. passport or photo driving licence  to reception in order to register. https://patient.emisaccess.co.uk/Account/Login?ReturnUrl=%2f register.

YELLOW CARD SYSTEM – when you pick up your medication you tick what you will need the following month on the repeat ordering slip  and the dispenser gives you a yellow card  telling you when the medication will be ready for collection the following month.

IN PERSON by dropping your repeat slip in the letter box outside reception or if we are closed, by the main external letter box

BY POST OR FAX -Fax number 01295 770858 Fenny Compton or 01295 678057 Shenington

PLEASE DO NOT TELEPHONE THE SURGERY TO REQUEST REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS.  It has been shown that taking requests over the phone has high risk of errors and is very time consuming for the dispensers- for these reasons we will not accept  requests  for repeat medication over the phone.

PLEASE ALSO DO NOT ASK THE DOCTOR OR NURSE FOR REPEAT   MEDICATION   DURING CONSULTATIONS AS THE DISPENSERS ARE FAR TOO BUSY TO DO REQUESTS THERE AND THEN.

DOSSET BOXES/BLISTER PACK

Do you know anyone who is struggling to remember to take their medication or getting confused regarding ordering medicines. We now offer a service where we can add the medication into plastic trays sealed and clearly labelled with the days of the week and times of the day. This is proving invaluable to some elderly people particularly if they live alone. If you do think someone could benefit from this service please discuss with the dispensary staff.

ORDER WHAT WE NEED EACH MONTH.

Wastage of medicines is the main reason why our clinical Commissioning group insist on a 28 day prescribing policy. Please don’t ask us for more than a month at a time as we have to adhere to the policy and please don’t shoot the messenger.

 STAFF ATTITUDES

We have had a number of comments

regarding poor staff attitude over recent months. This has been fed back to our team and they apologise if they have come across in a negative way. However this is a two way process and we would ask that you as patients treat our staff in a pleasant and non threatening way and adhere to our “rules” especially regarding ordering and collecting your repeat prescriptions. They all work extremely hard for your   benefit and we are  very grateful for the service they provide.

 PRESCRIPTION CHARGES

The government increased the prescription charge to £8.60 in April this year. For those on three or more items per month it is often cheaper to use the pre payment method-please ask dispensary for more details. Many people are exempt from prescription charges -these include people on low income and certain medical conditions such as cancer and under active thyroid problems. For the full list ask dispensary if you think you may be exempt. You will have to apply for a certificate and will have to keep on paying for your medicines until your certificate is received. Please bring your exemption certificate to show to the     dispensers

There appears to be a lot of confusion regarding the 2 working day rule for collection of repeat prescriptions and at certain busy times of the year we have to increase our turnaround time to three working days.

Our ideal solution would be for everyone to use the yellow card system or on line ordering.

Patients are frequently turning up too early which is very time consuming for staff when hunting for medication yet to be processed. This also causes a lot of disgruntlement for you the patients who have arrived at the surgery only to have to come back later.

In order to process a script the dispensers have to order in the items requested which does not arrive until the next day. The medicines then need to be picked from the shelf, labelled. bagged up and checked in addition to many queries which are thrown up such and reviews needed or items out of stock from our suppliers. As you can imagine with hundreds of medicines being processed each day it is quite a tight turnaround to be done within the 2 working day time scale

In order to alleviate these problems we have tried to explain what we mean by the phrase “2 working days”.If this all seems too complicated we suggest you order your medicines1 week prior to collection which will cover every eventuality.

A “working day” is Monday to Friday 9-5 with the exception of any bank holidays

Thus if a script is handed in at the surgery on a Monday morning  THE EARLIEST it will be  available for collection is Wed pm.

However, if a script is handed in after 5 on a Monday it will not start the process until Tues am and thus will not be ready for collection until Thursday pm.

If a script is handed in Friday morning, the earliest it will be available for collection is Tuesday am.  Likewise, if a script is handed in Fri pm after 5 it will not start the process until Mon am so will not be ready until Wed pm.

If one bank holiday is involved the process will take at least another 24 hours. When we are closed in the afternoon, collection cannot occur until the following morning.

We realise it can be hard to work out exactly when your script will be ready so if in doubt please order your repeat  7 days in advance .For those of you ordering on line the process starts from the time of receipt of confirmation via email  Not from when you put in the request on line.
