Out Of Hours Service

GP Out-of-hours

If you need to see a doctor or nurse urgently, between 6.30pm and 8.00am, Monday to Friday or any time on a Saturday or Sunday (and Bank Holidays)and it can not wait until your GP is open, please telephone 111.

If you forget this number, you can always call your surgery and their answer machine will tell you this number. A trained call handler will answer your call and take some personal details and basic information about the problem you are calling about. If the call handler thinks you need an emergency ambulance they will arrange this.

If you do not need an emergency ambulance you will either be asked to attend the Out of Hours Treatment Centre, or a nurse or GP will call you back to advise you on the most appropriate care.

When ever possible it is better to see patients at the centre where there is immediate access to medical equipment and medication and where clinical assessment can be made more effectively.

You will need to make your own way to the Out of Hours Treatment Centre. In exceptional circumstances transport may be provided for people with access difficulties. A home visit will only be made if it is considered necessary by a GP or nurse.

Visits will occur in order of clinical priority.

The out of hour’s service is for urgent help and advice only. It is not designed for the request of repeat prescriptions, test results or for making appointments. Please contact your GP surgery during opening hours to arrange these. Remember to arrange repeat prescriptions with your GP in good time.
